Tried to find a name for this wild plant. The ambitious nectar gathering ants couldn't care less about a name....it's lunch time for them. The thorns protect the buds but not the flowers so humming birds and others insects can get some nectar without injury. Very clever and very beautiful. Advice: Don't wear shorts and flip flops while walking in the untamed forest.

Thank you Sandi. Photo was taken at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. It's easy to overlook the small things while loosing your breath at the spectacular canyon. The thorns are a reminder..."I'm over here"
